One of the most famous collections of Bombkarnia is the one referring to regional embroidery. We want to present the heritage of Polish folk art in a new way, i.e. on glass baubles. The hand-made figurine of Opocznianka shows the details of regional embroidery with all the substantive elements.
This costume has been worn since the beginning of the 19th century by peasants from the lands of Kielecczyzna, located in the southeastern Poland. Today, it is still used as a festive garment and on the folk song and dance festivals. Opoczno female folk dress customarily includes: a bright blouse with a striped embroidery and a dress – „kiecka“ made of a colourful striped fabric with characteristic orange shade. The corset and the skirt are trimmed with velvet ribbons and pleats. Young girls wear woollen headscarves adorned with flowers and married women are obliged to put on embroidered bonnets. The whole costume is completed with various jewellery – pearls, amber necklases, strings of beads, and a striped pinafore contrasting with the skirt. A large number of pinafores was a proof of wealth. This handmade glass girl brings memories about the traditional costume and the embroidery from the Kielecczyzna region. It belongs to the Bombkarnia author’s collection.
