Painting Easter eggs comes from old Slavic beliefs, where the egg was a symbol of vitality and new life. It mediated between the human world and gods and spirits. The given color mattered. Blue Easter eggs were given to bachelors who were “exposed” that they were dating different girls. In turn, the blue color of eggs is obtained from a decoction of fermented oak wood (fresh) with iron filings.
