One of the most famous collections of Bombkarnia is the one referring to regional embroidery. We want to present the heritage of Polish folk art in a new way, i.e. on glass baubles. The hand-made Podlasie’s figurine shows the details of regional embroidery while maintaining all the substantive elements.
This costume has been worn since the beginning of the 19th century by peasants from the lands of Podlasie, east Poland. It is one of the best known Polish folk costume, but also one of the most modified.
Podlasie female folk dress customarily includes: a white, floral motifs embroidered blouse with wide cuffs and a dress – „wełniak“, which in polish means „made of wool“. A velvet corset of the dress is mostly black, which beautifully contrasts with colourful stripes on a woollen skirt. The whole costume is completed with a pinafore – „zapaska“, which is made of the same fabric as the skirt, knee-high boots with colour shoe-laces, a silk headscarve and an amber or a coral jewellery. This handmade glass girl brings memories about the traditional costume and the embroidery from the Mazovia region. It belongs to the Bombkarnia author’s collection.
